Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is an exercise-based program, designed by a specialty-trained vestibular physiotherapist, to improve balance and reduce problems related to dizziness and vertigo.

Dizziness, vertigo and loss of balance are common symptoms reported by adults during visits to doctors. They are all symptoms that can be the result of peripheral vestibular disorder (a dysfunction of the balance organs of the inner ear) or central vestibular disorder (a dysfunction of one or more parts of the central nervous system that help process balance and spatial information).

Treatment will vary according to the individual findings of the clinical assessment but may include special exercises for balance retraining, visual/gaze stabilization, and/or a repositioning maneuver for a common problem called Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV).

In some cases, a comprehensive initial assessment may aggravate symptoms of a vestibular order, so we recommend that you arrange to have someone drive you home following the initial session.

Kinesiologists are university trained health professionals who specialize in human movement. With their in-depth knowledge of the human body and how it moves, they apply exercise and movement science to promote health and wellbeing.

Our kinesiologists are registered with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK). They work both independently and collaboratively with our physiotherapists to help clients reach optimal recovery from injuries, including those sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

Following an initial assessment, our experienced kinesiologist will design an individualized exercise program based on your findings and goals. He/she will then work with you one to one educating, encouraging and empowering you to improve your mobility, strength and general conditioning.

Some extended health insurers cover Kinesiology so please check your individual plans. If you have been in a motor vehicle accident, ICBC will cover the cost of 12 pre-authorized kinesiology sessions within the first 12 weeks from the date of your crash without ICBC pre-approval. This active rehab program will give you a structured and tailored program to get you back to the things you love!

Available Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
